The Chairman called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.

Members in Attendance:  Bob Fish, Jerry Brophy, Charlie Cobb, Robert Siegelman.
Absent: Kim Gallagher, Pat Ingellis, Mike Kelley


Staff in Attendance:  Maura Farbotka, Recording Clerk

Chairman Fish informed the commission of the upcoming Town Meeting to be held on Thursday, February 11, 2010 at the Kate.  Items on the agenda include the leasing of land for the Hope Partnership, and the acquisition of 2 pieces of land.  Bob gave the commission a brief description of each of the properties.

Robert Siegelmann arrived at 7:48 p.m.

New Initiatives for the Conservation Commission:

Regional Conservation Activities:
Bob Fish stted no progress has been made yet on this item; he will continue to pursue.

Eco – Tourism:
Bob reported a successful January meeting with the Economic Development Commission, who showed great interest in working with the commission to promote tourism.





Energy Conservation:
Jerry Brophy reported he is still trying to make contact with both Julie Pendleton, and the Town of West Hartford to start the process of asking questions and obtaining ideas on starting an energy conservation program in Old Saybrook.  B. Fish suggested making contact with Tom MacDonald, a member of the Madison energy committee.


Cultural Preservation:
The Commission continued its discussion at length what items to include in this preservation project.  Suggestions were made to concentrate on things that people can relate to when wanting to preserve history.  Charlie Cobb offered to contact the Historical Society to check their records/archives for records on historical items that have already been completed.  B. Fish will follow up with Town Planner Christine Nelson before the next meeting for ideas to concentrate on.

Other Updates:
-Bob Fish and Mike Kelley attended the recent Land Trust meeting on Notable trees, reporting that it was well attended, and many Conservation Commission brochures were distributed.
-Water Waste Management Program:  B. Fis reprted the Saybrook Acres area is beginning to be surveyed. He noted progress is being made with the grants.  There is an upcoming meeting with the DEP to lay out the financial planning for the project.
